Our Story

Who we are, where we come from, and where we're headed as a church family

Who we are

Here's the deal. St. Andrews cares about one thing more than anything else, Jesus Christ. St. Andrews is a family of individuals that have found hope in Jesus, and simply want as many people as possible to experience that exact same freedom.

Where we come from

St. Andrews was started in March 1958 by another church, First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin, Florida. Late in 1957, Dr. Thomas P. Johnston, who was the Pastor of First Presbyterian of Dunedin had a vision to start a new church. A survey of the area and the rapid population growth in the county made North Dunedin the logical direction in which to move. Not long after, St. Andrews began with a band of determined people meeting in what was at the time the HP Hood orange juice plant and is now the Coca-Cola plant in Dunedin. Soon, we had land, an architect, and a new building on Michigan Boulevard. Through the years, we have had men and women who were truly welcoming to everyone, including open opposition to KKK activities in the area back in the day. We have also always been a church full of people with a forward-thinking, risk-taking, hands-on, mission-minded attitude.

We are a member church of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) denomination, one of the Reformed theological traditions of the Christian church. We are also active in the Fellowship Community, a network of churches and leaders called together to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ by growing in Christ’s likeness, living by God’s Word, and joining in God’s mission in the world.

Where we're headed

What's the bottom line? More than ever, St. Andrews is committed to fostering a family built around hope. Hope for the future. Hope for better. Hope for progress. Hope in Jesus. And as we move forward as a church family, inclusion and belonging remain at the center of who we are as followers of Christ.
